To deliver a high standard gateway service for farmers to access welfare services as needed via referral. To work with an understanding of rural perspectives and to boost morale where possible, whilst delivering support services with total confidentiality and respect for Gippsland farming families.
Gippsland Farmer Relief Incorporated is classified an “essential service”.
We provide food support and aid to farming families suffering on-going financial stress as a result of the 2016/17 milk price crisis; those impacted throughout 2019 by the worst Victorian drought in decades; the devastating East Gippsland bush fires in 2019/20, and now, right on the heels of the fires - the COVID-19 pandemic.
As it has been for many in our Communities, Covid-19 and the resulting social distancing rules put in place by the Victorian Government has caused disruption to GFR Inc’s work. However, we are still operating from our Stratton Drive warehouse - albeit on a scaled down roster, whilst strictly observing all Victorian Government safety requirements and the 4 square metre social distancing rule for workplaces.
Early in 2020 GFR’s food stocks were depleted in assisting hundreds of fire-affected farmers in East Gippsland; and replenishment has been hampered due to early panic buying by the public and the resulting supply restrictions put in place by Foodbank, wholesalers and supermarkets. The supply restrictions are now easing and we are currently working hard to re-stock our shelves as quickly as we can. In mid to late May 2020, we expect to re-commence our usual monthly hamper deliveries to all farming families registered with us.
In addition, GFR Inc. will continue to support where we can, bush fire affected communities in East Gippsland - working with local community groups on the ground.
It’s business as usual for Gippsland Farmer Relief Inc. Our good work goes on as does, we hope, the wonderful generosity of volunteers and donators upon whom GFR Inc. greatly relies to continue our support of Gippsland farming families. A reminder that 100% of all public donations are for the direct benefit of farming families and communities. Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Also, if you are wishing to volunteer - we need you! Please call our office on 5174 0217 to enquire or email firstname.lastname@example.org
